Christmas Meditation: A Universe Fit for the King
“His kingdom will have no end” (Luke 1:33)
Meditate with me on the expansive and non-ending nature of Christ’s Kingdom.
The angel Gabriel told Mary how her son’s—the Son, the eternal Word—kingdom “will have no end” (Luke 1:33). Many moons ago, the prophet Isaiah also told us how the Messiah’s Kingdom “will be vast, and its prosperity will never end” (Isaiah 9:7). There are two essential thoughts about the no-end-in-sight-ness of Christ’s Kingdom. Let’s take the obvious one first.
There is no viable threat to Jesus’s kingdom. Nothing and no one will take down the King, who, as we sing this time of year, “rules the world with truth and grace.” Satan will try to topple the Kingdom. Predictable. But he has failed, is failing, and will fail. Human governments keep trying to restrict the reign of Jesus over their citizens. But they fail, too.
